In botany the students learn about plant structure, plant morphology and the main ecological processes. Within plant taxonomy, the students are taught the lower and vascular tissue (cormophyta), woody and herbaceous plant species. The Institute lays strong emphasis on versatile demonstrations. Students learn about plant species and communities in the Carpathian Basin as well as plant patterns and their diversity: in Europe and the whole world.

Nature conservation courses teach conservation principles, objectives, tasks, history and values, protected natural areas of national and local importance, conservation management plans, special administrative skills, and provide insight into the assessment, planning and research processes of nature conservation. The subject aims to familiarize the students with the biological knowledge necessary for the preservation of natural populations and ecosystems and for conservation work.
